assalamualaikum...
dlm entri ni aq nk tulis omputeh..haha, practice make perfect (^^,)
Its tiring to have my life revolved around this non-productive routine (TV, Internet and phones all day long) n im beginning to feel spiritually void...im in dire need of something to feed my starving soul (cewahhh!)..so then i resort to an alternative to read books to help me spiritually...this is one of the books that I've finished reading.
this book is written by Dr. Danial
n actually it dedicated to non-Muslims in order to improve their understanding of Islam as this religion has so often been misjudged n misunderstood, due to the negative image painted by the Western media...Muslims worldwide has always been ill-treated, revoked of their rights n considered second-class in the West or sometimes of no place in the society at all...this book explains all these misunderstandings, it conveys the truth about Islam and the message it brings.
though this book is supposedly for non-Muslims, I strongly recommend every Muslim who is in some need to understand his/her religion better to read this book...sometimes, we ourselves do not understand some basic principles and laws in our religion, even after practicing it our whole life.
this books explains the very basic fundamentals of Islam, some of them i already knew but im very happy to receive more explanation about them...it told me things i do not know, reminded me of things i already knew, clarified things i didnt understand, answered my questions and justified things i failed to justify myself. although it was a bit repetitive in some of its points, as a whole i think this book is still a quite good read.
the chapter that i personally like, it would be "The Position of Women In Islam"...this chapter focuses a lot on hijab, the principles behind it, of how it is empowering women rather than oppressing them as many thought so..its kind of ironic, the fact that the Western media has often portrayed hijab as some kind of oppression towards women, yet women form the majority of converts in the West...these women's thoughts are recorded in this book, and its kind of moving to read why they chose to be a Muslim despite the kind of environment they are living in.
the issue of polygamy also was briefly explained and i think the explanations and justifications are satisfactory enough...another issue highlighted was the issue of terrorism. Islam condemns all kind of terrorism, what it condones is jihad, which is a distinctively different thing to terrorism...but sadly, these two words have always been referred to as synonyms when they actually aren't.
i think everyone should spend some time (and eh, money too of course) to read this book...it managed to strengthen my belief in this religion we so dearly love and want to die in...Islam is, indeed, a message of peace and is a strong upholder of human rights...to see this truth, we just need to understand it better.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "God, His angels and all those in Heavens and on Earth, even ants in their hills and fish in the water, call down blessings on those who instruct others in beneficial knowledge." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 422
